Picking your front entry door can be incredibly tricky. Pick the wrong door and the entire curb appeal of your house can drop dramatically, instantly. Pick the right one and you can enjoy years and years of beauty from your home and an easier sale in the future when you decide to move on to something else.

Picking the right front door for your home is something that many homeowners fret over, especially if you have just build your house yourself. Doors are something that most contractors tend to overlook, and unless you hound them constantly, you are likely to find yourself with a bare opening and no door whatsoever, and your contractor packed up and on to the next house or project!

On this web page I’m going to discuss some of the different types of doors you can expect to choose from, discuss how to get the right one for your specific needs and tastes, and talk about how to make sure your doors are all taken care of when building a house.

So You’re Building a New House? I recently built a house myself. I was absolutely shocked that my contractor never bothered to mention doors. As the project was winding down and there was still no mention of doors at all, I finally brought it up myself. The contractor seemed annoyed! That’s when I learned something that I had no idea of…contractors don’t like to deal with doors. They are more interested in getting the house done itself…doors are more of an afterthought to be brushed aside or worried about later.

I’m not sure exactly why this is, but it seems to hold true based on what I’ve learned from other people that I know who have built their own houses. Maybe it has something to do with personal preference. The homeowner’s all have their own preferences when it comes to doors, especially front doors, and they may take a long time to choose just the right one. I can see how a contractors would get frustrated about having to wait over something like that.

Then again, a contractor doesn’t usually own a door company themselves, which means that you have to deal with another company which gives them one more detail to have to worry about coordinating with a third party. The more this sort of thing happens, the less your contractor will be enthusiastic, it seems.

Front Door Options there are an almost infinite number of door options for you to choose from, depending on your personal preference and the type of house you have. There are wooden doors, steel doors, glass doors, double doors, single doors, wood doors with glass panels, and wood doors with stained glass or leaded glass windows. And the number of different wood grains to choose from is extensive as well.

The door you choose is really just going to be a matter of personal choice. What do you like? Do you like elegant dark wood doors? Do you like stained or leaded glass? Maybe you like frosted glass? Some people like steel doors that are heavier but more secure and hold up great over time. It really just depends. I suggest you spend a couple of days just going through the door catalogs from the company your contractor suggests (they probably have a company or two that they are used to working with that they can recommend to you).

Whatever you end up doing, one thing is for sure. You should put a lot of thought and effort into finding the right front entry door for your home because you are going to have to live with it from now on, so be sure to find the right one for you!

There’s something special about interior doors with glass, and I’m not sure exactly what it is…but they seem to add a touch of elegance to any room in your house. With prices coming down in recent years, now may be the time for you to outfit the rooms in your house with these beautiful doors.

On this page I’m going to talk about some of the many options you have in this area, and I’m going to touch on prices when I can as well as decorative options as well as what you can expect from the start when you first pick out the door that’s right for you, all the way till the finish when your new door is smartly installed into place.

What are your options? these days there are so many options when it comes to these types of doors that it’s almost impossible to know where to start! I find that people seem to lump these sorts of doors into three main categories, namely; french doors with glass panels, all glass doors (with maybe a small frame of wood), and mostly wooden doors with some sort of glass paneling at the top (or maybe leaded or stained glass).

French Doors With Glass if this is what you had in mind then I will spend a minute or two right here talking about these specific doors. French doors accentuate any room immediately. It’s their natural beautiful construction that stands out from any other door. They increase the brightness of a room and make it feel more breezy and open almost immediately. Plus they give you the option to paint the glass, or stain the glass to fit your exact decorating needs and can be used in any sort of wood framed door that you might want.

All Glass Doors Are Less Common: these doors tend to be used mainly in businesses and offices and less in the house and home. Though if you have an ultra modern house, then this may be the exact door for you! One downside of these particular doors that we find people complaining about is the smudging. People just don’t use door handles as much as you would think and so you get a lot of smudging on the actual glass for these doors. This means that you have to be very vigilant about keeping them clean unless you want them to look scuzzy for everyone. Of course, who has the time to clean these days?

Wood doors with glass panels this is by and large the most popular way to integrate glass panels into interior doors. Though technically you might still call these french doors (depending on the amount of glass involved) we would not call them that. There are an almost endless supply of options when it comes to this type of door and you should check with your door supplier to see their catalog. Another option is to have your door custom made to your exact specifications. While this is always going to be more expensive than a ready made option, you might be surprised at just how inexpensive it can be in certain circumstances.

No matter what you finally choose to do in your home one thing is for sure, interior doors with glass are something that you will be extremely happy with and something that will bring you many many years of joy and beauty and also raise the value of your home immediately.

When you choose a door you have many options and security isn’t always at the top of your list. You want something that looks good! Today though, it’s possible to have something that looks great and is also incredibly secure and that is where steel entry doors come into play.

Today I’m going to talk all about these kinds of doors, where you can find them, how you get the best deals, and what you can expect to pay as well as discuss some of the security benefits you may not have ever even thought about, but that are incredibly important in this modern day and age where crime seemingly is increasing constantly.

First, just what the heck are they? sometimes people get confused when you talk about steel entry doors. The first thing comes to mind is a big metal looking thing, am I right? The fact of the matter is, steel doors don’t have to look like steel anymore. Technology has advanced so much that these things can look like anything, even wood! Yes it is true that these doors are heavier than wooden doors, but at the same time they’re much more sturdy as well.

Who are the Major Manufacturers? there are many companies that manufacture these doors but some of the main ones include (in no particular order) Benchmark, JELD-WEN IWP Custom Doors, Pella Corporation, Stanley Door Systems, Therma-Tru Doors, and also Willmar Windows. This is by no means a comprehensive list, and I’m sure you can find many others that produce just as good of products as these guys. When it comes to this sort of door, the name of the manufacturer is less important than you may think. That is to say, there’s not a whole lot especially important about the doors that makes them that difficult to produce.

Steel Door Options Available: you have more options than you may expect when it comes to these doors. You can get them in nominal width and height, and you can get them in a plethora of different colors and finishes or even as unfinished surfaces. There are an infinite number of sizes and types from you choose from as well as many different panel styles such as flush or raised or cross buck or any number of others. As I mentioned before there are many different textures to choose from including both smooth and wood grain. You also have the option of placing glass panels within the doors as well. Basically you just have nearly the same options you would for a regular door with the added benefit of steel safety.

The main thing to realize is that a steel door doesn’t mean an industrial door, these things go in your house like any other door. In addition it won’t warp or crack over the years like a regular door will. Yes it’s true that these doors can become dented, on the plus side you can often remove the dents with a simple auto repair dent kit that you can find cheaply anywhere.

What about prices I know what you’re thinking, with the added benefits these doors must be very expensive right? Actually you’re wrong! Many times they’re less expensive than a fiberglass or wood door. Basic models without hardware and glazing can run as low as $100 to $120! Of course the price goes up a little when you add amenities bringing the price nearly a sigh as a regular wooden door.

The fact of the matter is, there are many benefits to owning steel entry doors in your home. But at the end of the day, when you come right down to it the only question that matters is; will you enjoy the look and feel of your door? And I think the answer to that is a resounding yes!

Closet doors don’t have to be boring anymore! Louvered closet doors may be just the thing to spice up your closet, and in fact your entire bedroom adding a touch of elegance and beauty that can turn your whole room around!

Some people simply like the basic regular blank door, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. But if you want something a little different, a little more elegant, a little more functional, and a little more exciting… then you’ve come to the right place. Today I’m going to talk all about louvered closet doors in as much detail as I can to give you all the information you need when making your closet door decision.

What are they? Louvered closet doors are fairly distinctive in nature. Generally speaking they come in bifold as well as multi-fold and sometimes a single door options to fit just about any frame that you might have in your house. One of the great things about them is that they allow your closets to breathe. That is to say, they really enhance the airflow between the rooms and also they allow your closets to ventilate in a way that is very helpful in keeping them murky smell out of your clothes.

Lets talk prices for a minute: these doors are quickly becoming some of the most popular closet door options in the country. Prices are going to run in a wide variety of ranges depending on the size of the door you need. Another consideration to keep in mind is whether or not your door will need to be custom designed. As with just about anything in this world, customization cost more money so keep that in mind.

Is there any major drawback? there actually is one small drawback that many people complain about quite often actually. What is the drawback? While you might not think it’s a big deal, but some people feel that these doors are little bit harder to keep clean than a regular blank door. Personally I’ve never had any trouble keeping mine clean but they do take just a little bit more work to keep them clean. I suppose it’s all those little wooden slots (for lack of a better word) that make up these beautiful doors. Personally I just use a nice feather duster and I find it gets into all of the little cracks quite easily and so I don’t really understand what the problem is when it comes to cleaning! But to each his own as they say.

What are they made out of? these doors are generally made out of wood but technically they can be made out of anything. And also when it comes to wood you have nearly infinite options as far as what kind of wood you’d like to use. Again this will be a function of price, as the more expensive woods are, well, more expensive! The good news is that no matter what your decor is in any specific room, you can find a wood that will match for these doors. Some more popular woods that are used include cedar, poplar, mahogany, oak, cherry, maple, and actually teak!

No matter what material you finally settle on, and no matter whether you have them custom designed or buy them in more generic ready made form, one thing is absolutely sure… and that is that your louvered closet doors will last for years to come and continue to bring you joy and beauty on a daily basis.

If you’ve got a storefront or a business of any kind then you’re probably looking for commercial glass doors. You may have found that it’s not as easy as just buying any other kind of door, in fact it’s often pretty hard to find any kind of information at all on the subject.

Luckily you’ve come to the right place. Today I’m going to talk all about commercial glass doors, what you need to know in order to find the best ones, how to go about purchasing them, what you can expect to pay, and even how to maintain them over time so that they last as long as possible.

I’m going to assume that you are building an office because that’s usually when people need to buy glass doors. I suppose you may already have an office with a glass door that just got busted and you need to replace it, I can help you out with that too. But for the most part I’m going to assume that you are going the route of new office construction here. The first thing to understand is that your door should be the absolutely last thing to go into your office. Why is that? Because it’s glass, and glass breaks during construction projects. The last thing you want is to have your door installed and then have the flooring guy carrying tiles into the office for installation smash into it and break it!

Where To Purchase Your Glass Door? This depends. Your construction company contractors may already have a source that they use for glass doors, and in many cases it’s a good idea just to go with it. People work with who they’re comfortable with and over time your construction crew will have built up relationships that you are sometimes better off not disturbing. Sometimes it is okay to go with an outside company if you’re pretty sure that the company your construction team uses is overcharging you.

What about a renovation job? I mentioned earlier that you may be replacing an old door and if so this is the part of the web site for you. Something that you absolutely have to keep in mind that many people don’t think about when replacing a commercial glass door is masonry. You’re almost certainly get have to hire a masonry guy to help with the installation because it’s not just as easy as slapping in a new door into the old frame. Many times the frame has to be replaced too. So a good drywall or masonry guy is gonna be important because you have to rip out the old frame and this will ruin the wall and have to be replaced. Make sure to hire a bonded and insured installer. Many times the door company themselves won’t install it so you’ll have to hire somebody. A good way to find an installer is to ask the door company themselves; they should be able to recommend somebody to you.

A quick note on prices prices will vary depending on the size the door quite obviously. An 8 foot tall door that’s around 4 feet wide is gonna cost you anywhere from $500 to $1000 at wholesale, and you can expect retail prices to go up sometimes as much as 50% or more. This means your door can easily cost between $1000 and $2000. I guess that’s a small price to pay to have such professional looking entrance way, but it still stings!

Where to buy you can’t expect to find commercial glass doors at your regular hardware store type companies like Home Depot or Lowes because they don’t carry them. I recommend you start out by discussing it with your contractor as they will probably be able to point you in the right direction. Unfortunately it’s not such a large industry that you can really shop around a whole lot. If you can find two different quotes from two different companies, consider yourself lucky.

Hopefully you found this introduction on commercial glass doors useful. I know it can be frustrating sometimes finding information on this exact industry, and that’s really strange when you think of all the commercial glass doors that you see day in and day out at nearly every business in America!
